Materials

For the Fried Chicken

  • - 8 chicken pieces legs and breasts
  • - 2 cups buttermilk
  • - 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • - 1 tablespoon paprika
  • - 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • - 1 teaspoon salt
  • - 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • - Oil for frying

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • - 4 large potatoes peeled and cubed
  • - 1/2 cup milk
  • - 4 tablespoons butter
  • - Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).
  • In another bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture until well coated.
  • Fry chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • For the mashed potatoes, boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain.
  • Mash potatoes with milk and butter until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
