Yield: 4
- - 2 cups of milk
- - 1 egg
- - 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- - 2 cups of flour
- - Pinch of salt
- - 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- - 2 tablespoons of sugar
- - 6 tablespoons of butter melted
- - Vegetable oil for frying
- - Powdered sugar for dusting
- - Whipped cream or fruit for topping (optional)
Prepare the Batter:
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Add in the salt, baking soda, and sugar. Mix until combined.
- Slowly fold in the flour until the batter becomes smooth.
Prepare for Frying:
- Pour the batter mixture into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag and set aside for a few minutes.
- Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan until it is about half an inch deep. Heat the oil on high for about two minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
- Check if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into it. If it bubbles around the edges, the oil is ready. If not, adjust the heat accordingly.
Fry the Funnel Cake Bites:
- Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag.
- Slowly drizzle the batter into the oil, forming small circles or bite-sized shapes.
- Cook until the bottom half is golden brown, then gently flip with a slotted metal spatula and cook until the other side is golden brown.
Drain and Serve:
- Remove the funnel cake bites from the oil and place them on paper towels to soak up excess grease.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Serve with whipped cream or fruit for an extra treat.
