This amazing soup is a delight to make from scratch, and the flavor of homemade wontons is unbeatable! You can use store-bought wontons, but making your own adds a special touch.

Materials

Wontons:

  • - 8 ounces ground pork
  • - 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • - 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • - 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • - 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • - 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • - 2 green onions finely chopped
  • - 24 square wonton wrappers 3½ inches each

Soup:

  • - 6 cups 1,440g chicken broth
  • - 1½ teaspoons garlic minced
  • - 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • - 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • - 2-3 green onions finely chopped

Instructions

For the Wontons:

  • **Mix the Filling:** In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, brown sugar, and finely chopped green onions. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • **Fill the Wontons:** Place 1 heaping teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold the corners together to form a triangle, pressing out any excess air.
  • **Seal the Wontons:** Slightly lift the long edge of the wonton. Wrap the edges in opposite directions and press firmly to seal, using your finger to create a space and wetting the edges as needed.
  • **Prepare for Cooking:** Continue with the rest of the wontons and let them rest while you prepare the soup.

For the Soup:

  • **Prepare the Broth:** In a medium pot over medium heat, add the chicken broth, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and finely chopped green onions. Heat until warm.
  • **Cook the Wontons:** In a separate large pot, bring about 4 quarts of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the wontons and cook for 5 minutes.
  • **Combine and Serve:** Strain the wontons and add them to the warm broth mixture. Serve warm and enjoy!
