This wonderful Cornbread Dressing recipe takes you to the heart of Southern cooking. Perfect for a festive holiday table or a nice family supper!
Ingredients:
– 1 loaf French bread, cubed and dried
– 1 cup celery, chopped
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 3/4 cup butter
– 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
– 2 eggs, beaten
– 1 tablespoon sage, or to taste
– 1 teaspoon thyme
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion, sauté until soft.
In a large bowl, combine crumbled cornbread and cubed French bread.
Stir in the sautéed vegetables, chicken broth, eggs, sage, thyme, pepper, and salt until well mixed.
Transfer to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until top is golden brown.
